Anybody
else interested in this Grey Gardens movie that's on HBO in a few
weeks? I kept seeing the promo trailers on it and just had NO FREAKING
CLUE what the heck was going on there but I did a little wiki-search on
it and totally got hooked on the story of Big Edie and Little Edie. You
can even find the original Grey Gardens documentary from
the 70's on YouTube. (It's broken up into 11 parts but I think part
one is missing. Not that you need it. The movie is free-flowing, stream
of conciousness stuff with no narrative.) It's one of the most bizarre
and utterly fascinating things I've ever seen.

Few new beadies are now up! Figured a small update was better than NO update so I just posted what I had done. :)
Who is all @#$%!$!@#$!@$!@#$@!# about last night's LOST? ??? ???
If
he dies, he can't bring the six back. If he can't bring the six back,
he never dies. If he never dies, he brings the six back. If he brings
the six back, he dies. If he dies, he can't bring the six back. If he
can't bring the six back, he never dies. If he never dies, he brings
the six back. If he brings the six back, he dies......OMG ENDLESS LOOP
OF TIME-TRAVELING TOM-FOOLERY MY HEAD IS READY TO ASS-PLODE. What does
it all mean?? I'm officially lost on LOST. lol Oh well. Nobody ever really dies
on this show so it will all work out. It would have been a perfect
episode if Kate wasn't in it. Hehehe. (Me no likee that character.)
(p.s.
Email is now fixed. Apparently my cable company decided to change the
email server settings from mail.blahblah to pop.blahblah without, you
know, telling any of their customers. TRUE STORY. No letting people
know beforehand and now no WAY of letting people know because none of
their customers had any working email after that. WTF??? WHO DOES THAT?
Small town cable companies SUCK. Seriously.......who just CHANGES THE
SERVER SETTINGS on a whim without letting their customers know of the
changes beforehand?????????) March 24, 2009
NOTE: my email is currently not working. I owe more than few people emails but.......is broken for the moment. My
fault, I guess, because I had the cable peeps out here after not being
able to get in any of my premium channels in all weekend long. They
came out, replaced a splitter on the outside of the house, things were
fine, and then my email went kaput an hour later and hasn't been seen
since. *sniff* (But strangely, my internet is working. ???? Not sure
what is up.) I'm hoping it's just magically better tomorrow morning so
I can avoid another round of calling/waiting for technicians, etc.
*crosses fingers* ONCE A WEEK FOR THAT KIND OF THING IS FINE, THX.

I really don't
care for the first single off of U2's new album so I was a little
hesitant about how the whole album would be but, having listened to it
a few dozen times in the last couple weeks, I think it's some of the
best stuff they've done in a long time. It's a bit puzzling why they
even went with that song for the first single because 1) it doesn't
match the overall tone of the album (which is pretty dark and complex)
and 2) when they could have gone with the FAR superior Magnificent or
No Line on the Horizon songs. (Having said all that, it's probably not an album for the casual U2 fan who only likes their hits vs. their albums. ) March 20, 2009
Gosh,
it's been a busy week. (Though, in retrospect, I guess it wasn't CRAZY
busy but perception is everything and my head is feeling like it was
busy so.....) I spent most of the morning going around thinking it was
Saturday, instead of Friday. Hmph. And then I spent the rest of the
morning feeling irritated that I have to do the whole 'morning thing'
for Saturday AGAIN tomorrow. I mean - I'm already tired of Saturday today. (Life is hard, right? lolol) *waves to my mailman* (Mr.
Mailman finally got a chance to ask me why I have 12341234123 packages
for him to pick up week in and week out so I gave him a business card
and we had a nice chat about my beads/site and stuff today. His wife
likes the Pandora beads so I guess I need to get off mah butt and make
some more of them soon, yes?) He didn't ask me outright why I get
regular packages from Germany that need to be signed for but I can see
the ????'s over his head so I snapped a pic of the package I got today.
You open the plasticy envelope to find a printed paper bag...
And inside the paper bag is....
YARN,
of course. (Along with the always-present freebie package of gummy
bears and a sheet of German-->English knitting abbreviations. Not
sure what to do with the latter but I happily munch up the former.
MMMMmmm! GUMMY BEARS!) What did you THINK I was ordering from Germany? Only it's not *just* yarn. It's Wollmeise yarn.
It's a yarn that is so coveted and so hard to come by that you buy it
when you have the chance, cost be damned, just because you CAN. (Side
note : as far as indie-hand-dyed yarn goes, it's not that expensive to
buy. Depending on what the current US dollar/EURO conversion rate is,
that is. The EURO really kicks our American ass sometimes.) I was lucky
enough to have my name drawn in a lottery last fall to get into the
yearlong sock yarn club for this year because otherwise I wouldn't have
any Wollmeise either. You pretty much have to stalk the web site for
2-3 days at a time to be there the second it
updates with new stuff because it all gets sold out in like 30 seconds.
I don't have the patience for that kind of thing so I mostly just like
looking at other people's package pictures. lol How I got my hands on
these two skeins is a mystery to me. I just clicked onto the Ravelry
forum at the exact right time
by luck to get a head's up that OMG YARN WAS TO BE HAD and managed to
grab two. The bigger skein is laceweight and will make for a great
scarf/shawl. I know most people don't like brown as a color (for which
there is good reason, yes?) but I have 'thing' for brown. My 2 winter
jackets are chocolate brown. I have brown Converse sneakers, brown
Sketchers, a brown leather pocketbook, etc. I'm just boring as hell,
aren't I? lolol (Oh, did I mention this stuff SMELLS great? I don't
know WHAT she washes the yarn in after dying it but it smells like
angels and fluffy clouds. Apparently, Germans know how to make really
good-smelling laundry detergent. Or wool wash. Or something.) March 16, 2009
WHATEVER YOU DO - DO NOT MAKE THESE BROWNIES. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. And if you do make them, DO NOT USE A GOOD QUALITY CHOCOLATE for the ganache like Ghirardelli. JUST DON'T. And if you're thinking chopped walnuts would go quite nicely sprinkled on top? GET IT OUT OF YOUR HEAD. DON'T EVEN GO THERE.
Because
you will create something so fantastically, wonderfully, sinfully,
lusciously, blissfully frigging awesome (and EASY TO MAKE!) you will
want to eat the whole pan of them in one sitting and then your heart
will explode, THE END. And this is coming from someone who doesn't
have a sweet tooth. Chocolate tooth, maybe, but I'd rather have nachos
then dessert, ok? But these things are frigging crack-loaded times a
THOUSAND. DO NOT HAVE THEM IN THE HOUSE EVER EVER EVER EVER.

Just
about caught up on the orders I took from last week's update. THANK YA
SO MUCH. Y'all are keeping me busy and the packages have been flying
out of here every day like clockwork. I've opened up some of the new
things for ordering again now that I'm caught up. My elbows need a
break though (they get pretty owie
after 7-8 days in a row of smooshing them on my work table while
torching) so I'm taking the next couple days off I think before I get
started on the next batch of orders.
Anybody else following Ree aka. The Pioneer Woman and her meet-up with Bakerella this week?
She hasn't posted NEARLY enough photos of this epic meeting for me. Get
to it, missy! I want to see lots and lots of pictures of cake pops and
cupcake goodness. (Though.......is it just me or does the whole cake
pop thing kind of...seem......umm....icky? I've seen her make those on
Martha's show before and it's broken up cake that you smoosh up into
cake 'meatballs' and I've got a 'thing' with food and consistency and
the thought of smooshing up cake....with your hands...and rolling it
around....with your hands.... I don't know. They look GREAT and I would
love to MAKE them but I don't think I would want to eat them. OK??)
Finished
up my Queen Bee sampler. Very cute. Annnnnnnnnnnd I promptly rolled it
up and put it away with all the other rolled up finished pieces I have
nicely put away that are patiently waiting for me to win the lottery so
I can afford to get them all framed. lolol
March 4, 2009
Few
new things up tomorrow. Not much notice, I know, but I'll be taking at
least a few orders on stuff so hopefully that will make up for it. :)
March 3, 2009
Bunnies, bunnies, and more bunnies.... March 2, 2009 Proof I still make beads: I've
been working on some small orders here and there and then trying to fit
a few new things in between. One of these days I'll have enough new
stuff to post an update. (I'd like to say I'll get enough done this
afternoon to make an update possible for TOMORROW but that's most
likely wishful thinking on my part. Maybe Wednesday. If things don't go
kaplooey around here in the meantime, that is.) So yes, I did start
on getting some of those chickens done that I wanted to get to, and I
started on some Spring Fairies and a Bee Fairy. My lil Cupid guy
(girl?) always seems to be popular so I'm trying to incorporate that
same design into things that can be done year round, vs. just at
Valentine's. I had to ditch the feet with toes though in order to get
some arms on these lil babies. (Tried them without arms and didn't like
it. Fairies have arms, right? I couldn't reconcile an armless version in my head. So off when the big toe-y feet for some room for arms. :)) And
I also got some COOKING done this week. Actual, homemade cooking. Oh,
how I miss thee. I like crap take-out as much as the next person but
more than once a week makes me sad. I'd just much rather have something
homemade. (And it certainly doesn't have to be fancy either. Homemade
Shepherd's Pie is infinitely better than a McDeath meal.) I tried out
the Barefoot Contessa's Italian Wedding Soup recipe
out and holey sweet bejebus is it good. I mean REALLY REALLY good.
Well, it's good if you like spinach in your chicken soup and don't mind
taking the time to make the meatballs before you can get to the soup.
It's totally worth it though because the soup part is easy, easy, easy.
(Might I just say though how much I hate handling ground chicken?
Blech. So much worse than ground beef in tackiness and gross factor. )
As all her recipes though, it makes a lot Then I saw a link on Slashfood to this post on The Simple Dollar about
doing breakfast burritos in bulk and was all OMG HAVE TO DO THAT. Not
sure why. Especially because, um, I hate eggs. I mean *hate* eggs.
(*cough*chicken abortions*cough*). Hate having to touch them, hate the
smell of them cooking... But I'm always looking for things that can be
frozen that don't come out tasting like, well, ass. I love the idea of 'making things ahead' but not everything was
meant to be frozen and reheated. I'm very picky that way. So having
said that, my burritos were a TOTAL success. Easy to make, reheats
wonderfully. Two thumbs up. Of course, because I don't like eggs, mine
were very, very different than the ones in that link. I just made it up
with stuff I like. I used: 2 pckgs. of ground chicken (again with the ground chicken!), cooked through (of course) Taco seasoning 2 1/2 red peppers & 1 large onion, chopped and sauteed A can of fat-free refried beans Shredded cheese (some 'Mexican' blend) Large flour tortillas Make
your burritos, flash freeze in the freezer on cookie sheets and then
you can bag them up together. 2 minutes on 50% and then 1 min. on high
to eat. Being an Irish/Portuguese girl I don't have a clue what makes
for an 'authentic' burrito so I'm sure my combo of ingredients is
sacrilegious in some way but they came out yummy so I'm happy. (And
you know what love is? Love is hating eggs to the point they make you
nauseous but making some eggy breakfast burritos for your husband
anyway. .
I had to breathe through my mouth the whole time I made them. Haha! I
did his with eggs, the peppers/onions, chopped up bits of breakfast
sausage and cheese. He loved 'em. :))
