Bead Blabby

April 2009 Archive

April 29, 2009

New beadies are up! And you'll excuse me if I'm not overly excited about it because I'm nauseous as heck today for some reason. (OMFG SWINE FLU????) I think I'll take a lil nap now and deal with emails later tonight. Bleh.

Oh poo, forgot to update here for a  lil bit, eh? Apologies. :)
I had a very nice bead-free week for the most part aside from a few custom orders but I've been torching away the last couple days so I'll have a bunch of things to put up tomorrow.

Did I really say just 8 days ago that spring was gloomy and chilly?
HAHAHAHAHA!
The weather broke on Friday and it's been 90 degrees out since. That's just CRAZY TALK considering we were running the wood stove *2 weeks ago* because it was in the 20's at night.
Oooooooof. It's hottttttttttttttttttttttttttt out. *whine*

April 21, 2009

It seems the hubby and I have gotten ourselves into a bit of a mess with our house.
It started out small, as most things do, but now it's snowballed dramatically and we're in way over our heads now.

It started this winter when our couch got a couple of small rips in it. So then talks began about when we should get new couches. It was put on the back burner for a few months but then 'spring' came (and I'm using quotation marks because it's still very chilly/gloomy here and very un-springlike) and another small rip (chenille: turns out not such a great choice of fabric for a sofa). So I started investigating couches to buy. (Our current ones were purchased in mid-2003 so they're not exactly new anyway.)  I found a few I liked but they were all in a sagey green color. Which is no can do because our walls are that color and couches that match your wall color seems like a big "NO" to me. We've been here five years now, so we decided to paint and change the wall color. Only it's not just a little area. My living room flows into the dining room which flows into the hallway which flows into the 2-story entryway which flows into the downstairs area....... Changing the color/painting is a HUGE time commitment. But no biggie. A nice khaki-ish taupe color was decided on.
But then I thought about it some more and decided if we were going to go with that color then my coffee tables/dining room set wouldn't match very well anymore. (They are currently a hunter green on their legs/stained wood tops.) So we decided we would repaint the green to black. That would look really sharp and, really, they could use a little spiff and attention anyway.

But if we're going to paint those black then my dining room area rug wouldn't match any more but, no matter, because it's getting really old and really frayed.

Only......if we're going to do ALL of that then the stairway would need to painted too because that won't match either so let's paint that black too......

You got all that? Because we kind of sort of MAY possibly buy couches in a certain color that we MAY be interested in we've now come up with a plan to paint the living room, dining room, entryway, hallway, kitchen table set, 2 coffee tables, and a stairway. A plan that is set into motion as of this weekend with the purchasing of 5 gallons of paint and 2 new area rugs. *blink* So, uhhh, I guess we know what we're going to be doing this summer.  :| (Mind you, negotiations are still ongoing as to whether or not to get new carpeting or continue on with the wood flooring we already have in the kitchen/dining rooms.)

But aren't my new rugs pretty? Well, they're pretty if you like a certain look I guess. The rest of y'all will think they are awful. lolol I got them from jcpenney.com for a great price because they were on sale and I had a 20% off coupon code on top of that.

I finally caught up with all those orders (w000000!) and am taking a few days off to 'relax' which, for me, mostly means cleaning the house, beating back the clutter, and trying out new recipes. What can I say? I'm a fairly boring person. lolol

I tried out these Glazed Lemon Cakes yesterday and OMG they are good! I'm not into cake in general but I do loves all things lemony. They happened to have some Meyer lemons at the local farm stand where we got all our veggies from this week (though obviously, this being New England, the lemons are not local) so I used those, because those are definitely yummier than regular lemons (at least in baked goods). You never ever could find Meyer lemons in the supermarkets here, except maybe Whole Foods, but for some reason they are getting more available around here as time goes on. Definitely a good thing, because I love them. :)

Hope everyone has a nice holiday weekend. (Even if you don't celebrate the holiday it can still be a nice weekend, right?) No big plans going on here for this weekend i.e. I'm not cooking. I pretty much stick to going all out for Thanksgiving and that's it.

I haven't posted pics lately of what I'm working on so....must correct that. I have been knitting (got three pairs of socks and some bunny nuggets in progress that can attest to that) but I've definitely been stitching more lately at night while I'm watching tv. Thursday night while watching The Office I finished up my first biscornu. Woooooooooo excitement! *snirk*

I'm not sure what the heck a biscornu really is (other than being a fancy name for pincushion??) but all the cool kids love to make them so you all know I had to get me a piece of that action. CAN NOT BE LEFT OUT. My verdict: holy finicky finish on these. Which was not at ALL helped by not looking at any finishing directions before, you know, starting to finish it. *ahem* So there were, uhhhhh, issues there. I got it worked out but the border is supposed to be a little wider so mine ended up pretty teeny. And I noticed while looking for directions that my bee wings were all wrong. For whatever reason, the wings part didn't print on my pattern copy AND I NEVER NOTICED OR QUESTIONED THAT LIKE AN IDIOT so I, uhhhh, winged it (HARDEEEE HAARRR HARRR) and charted my own wings. And of course now I like the original wings better than mine but it is what it is. Don't let the bigger pic fool you either - this sucker is pretty small. Say 2.5 inches across and 1 inch high. I think I'll stick to bigger ones next time. (This one was a free pattern, if you like the design.)

Too soon for Halloween? God I love Halloween colors. I got all the stuff to do a Lizzie Kat Halloween sampler in the mail this week and the colors are oh_so_purty. Purples and greens and oranges... Not sure when I will start this though. Gots to finish up what I'm working on first!

Some new beadies up today! Not sure many people are around with the holiday weekend coming up and stuff but that's okay. I feel better posting it so I can move on to something else. Hubby has been bugging me to do some big hole beads for him to silver core so maybe I'll work on that next!

April 7, 2009

My safety glasses 'broke' again a few weeks ago and the husband literally SHAMED me into getting another pair. lol I mean - what's the big deal? One of the 'arms' fell off a year or so ago and I duct taped it back on but I used BLACK tape so, by my reasoning, everything was still COOL. Then the arm fell off again and it had to be taped up again with a piece of steel mandrel in there to keep it sturdy. These glasses have served me well since I got them back in 2002 - I wasn't going to just toss him aside without a fight! So I probably would have kept them that way forever (hubby be damned *pfffft*) except at this point they were a little too wide for my head so that side was always hanging down. And I GUESS that's a wee bit ridiculous (and annoying) so I broke down and got a newer, sexier,  more modern pair.
