June 2009 Archive

June 29, 2009

Everybody enjoy the weekend? I'd like a do-over on mine, please. *snort*
But enough about that. New week.

I did manage to finish a stitchery project, so that's nice. I loved this pattern by Blackbird Designs when I first saw it but I never really looked at it as far actually stitching it, if you know what I mean. That big ole plaid hand was a big ole boring pain in the ass, let me tell YOU. Just day after day of little green and gold squares. Gah! It didn't feel like I would ever finish it!
Now I just have to dig up some small white buttons to put at each corner and beg the hubby to make me a frame. (Though Michaels has been throwing the 60% off framing coupons lately so maybe I'll go that route.)

June 23, 2009

I just saw in the paper today that April/May had a combined total of SIX clear days and that June hasn't had even ONE clear day so far. (Clear day meaning not cloudy/overcast and/or raining.)
When I say it's been gloomy out this spring - I mean it's been effin' GLOOMY! lolol

New beadies are up! Finally!
Just haven't been into doing up anything new the past couple of weeks. That's the bad part of doing a lot of custom orders - it makes your brain lazy. I should do one new thing up every time I torch before I move on to anything else but that would be too much like, *GASP*, work or something so forget that. lol I don't want to do anything that screams of WORK. :)
Or maybe it's just the weather that is starting to get to me. It's been cloudy, chilly and/or rainy every day since the dawn of time and, man, am I tired of it. It's just sooooooooooooooooooooooo freaking depressing after awhile.
It's been like this week after week for sooooooo long now. Not funny anymore. IT'S BRINGING ME DOWN.  Send some sun my way, eh? (But not too much sun because then I'll be complaining about how HOT it is. lol)

Will have new beadies up on Monday!!!
I was hoping to get them up this week but I swear to god I just don't know where this week went. *POOF* It's now Friday and I'm left thinking - WHAT DID I DO ALL WEEK?? That's summer for ya, I guess. I know I tried to enjoy the couple sunny days we had, seeing as it's been rainy, gloomy, and a little chilly every day since, ohhhhhhhhhhhh, I don't know.......SOMETIME LAST YEAR. (Or so it seems.) I feel like I'm stuck in my own personal Groundhog movie: every day I wake up to grey skies and a few rain sprinkles. Over and over and over again.
Anyhoo, here's something that's decidely NOT gloomy: Rebecca's newest knitting pattern, Tofu the Hot Dog. Soooooooo cute! I don't hoard worsted weight yarn though, just sock yarn for the most part, or I would start whipping him up immediately. Woof!

Anyone else catch this post by Bakerella this weekend? These are sooooooooo freaking adorable I'm tempted to try this out.  (With the exception of trying to print my own tissue paper, mind you. I can see that going horribly horribly wrong and have visions of me trying to pull small bits of tissue paper out of my printer with tweezers in an attempt to unjam it. Just saying. REGULAR OLE TISSUE PAPER FOR ME, THANKS.) I would have to make my own frosting though - I can't STAND that stuff that comes out of a can. BLECH. Boxed mixes for brownies, etc. are fine but canned frosting is N to the A to the STEEEEEEEEE. (And really - how hard is it to make frosting? It's just butter and powdered sugar mixed together. Easy, easy.)

Are Netbooks the new thing? I wanted to replace the hubby's outdated (and just plain *OLD*) laptop because, wooo, that bad boy is a clunker.  (The laptop not the husband..hmm......well........) And all I kept seeing was netbook, netbook, netbook and I'm behind on the times here because I just didn't know WTF a netbook was? Turns out it's  like a laptop only a 1/2- 1/3 cheaper than what would you pay for a good laptop, awesome battery usage, nice and light and easy to carry. What's not to love? Ok so the monitor is smaller too but that ain't no big thing. We've been playing around with it since Friday and this baby is a keeper. I watched a movie off of Netflix on it on the deck and then we hung out there with company for a while and even after being on all that time, with heavy use, it still had like 70% battery power left. *AWESOME* So if you're looking for something to tote around easy-peasy, get yourself one of these. I literally took it out of the box, turned it on, pointed my clicker at my wireless network (cuz all my neighbors use wireless too) and that was that. No installing anything or figuring out connections. Just bing, bang boom - up and running in less than 5 minutes! *LOVES IT*

 June 8, 2009

Haven't updated because the web site has been fraught with problems as the provider got hacked, etc. As of right now, you still can't 'see' the site if you go to the .com address but it is accessible by the index.php address. Very annoying. I hope they fix it, like, TODAY because I'm tired of seeing a blank page for a site. *three days and counting* I'MMA GETTING KINDA PISSED NOW. Grrrr.
I think it just caps off what turned out to be an annoying week. We went on the road trip from HELL on Thursday and everything was downhill from there. We hit a lot of unexpected traffic which made the trip take twice as long, SOMEone (not me) accidentally blew through a toll booth without paying so I'm now waiting for THAT little goodie to show up in the mail (I'm afraid to look up how much the fine is going to be DENIAL*DENIAL*DENIAL) and, to top things off, a rock cracked my windshield on the way home while we were on the Pike.  (Though I'm feeling better about that now that I know the insurance is going to cover it. I've never had a car with full coverage before - it's kinda nice! I've never cracked a windshield before but I have paid for 4-5 very expensive driver side windows over the years due to thieves and it's no fun for your wallet, let me tell ya.) And a stupid squirrel on the deck knocked over one of my grumpy face stones and it fell down and split one of my blueberry bushes in half. Grrr. See? This is why I hate the squirrels. They just can't NOT get into trouble by ruining stuff, sucking down my hummingbird feeder syrup, taking my suet feeder off the hook and DRAGGING IT AWAY TO PARTS UNKNOWN. (Seriously - it's been like 3 months and we *still* can't figure out where they dragged that off too. A whole metal suet cage!) The hubby has started shooting them off the deck again with the BB gun and I don't feel badly about it either. Gotta learns them to stay off my deck somehow.  lol

  June 1, 2009

Well, there is no doubt my beloved kousa dogwood that dominates my front yard is 'sick' again this year. Makes me very sad. :( It's usually covered in beautiful white blooms this time of the year, almost blindingly so. This year it's got only a handful of blooms and lots of wrinkly, almost withered looking leaves. The first 4 summers we were here, it was fine and then we had one bad year, seemed like we had it kicked last year, and now it's back again, whatever it is. I've done lots of research on the problem but have never nailed down what might be causing it, other than maybe it possibly being a long/cold winter combined with a cold/wet spring. So, no blooms this year. (Which also means less fruit in the fall for the birds and squirrels to fatten up on.) I'll have to make do with pictures instead and keep my fingers cross that Spring 2010 will be better. *sniff*
